Jenna's Picks for 2015
I found I just didn't give two shakes of a hat about these characters anymore. The action was missing, the feelings of intensity were gone and the story lacked any real reason for me to care. So I stopped listening halfway through and f...
Snoresville. I wanted it to be more like Maisie Dobbs. And the narrator of the audio book was terrible.
I really enjoyed the history of the gray leap forward, though it was very hard to read
Flavia is a twit. She should stop being such a pain in the ass and just listen, then maybe she'd get answers.
I really wanted to like this. But it had too much description and ex's, fighting them and not enough storyline development. The ending felt rushed and the focus of the book was split. Not the best outing for the heroes.
Great art, good story! Really enjoyed!!
I just didn't get it. I'm sure it's some modern day allegory with a whole bunch of other literary terms, but j don't get it.
Oh Jacqueline Winspear, you have broken my heart. This soulful novel is so lovely. My heart hs broken into a million pieces.
The ending is left totally in the air after a simply SHOCKING turn of events. Now I'll have to listen to the other book in this series if I want to find out what happened.
Jenna's Picks for 2015
Of All Time - 2015 - 2016
The Ice Twins by S. K. Tremayne
Expect the unexpected from this novel about a family who have suffered the loss of one of their identical twin daughters and then move to a remote island, only to have their remaining daughter claim she is the one that passed away. This book is a roller coaster of emotions that keep you wanting to stay up and read it all night. The story moves at a brisk pace and sucks you in quick!
Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little (Audio book from NH Downloadables)
Jane is released from prison on a technicality, originally sent 'up the river' for life for the bloody murder of her socialite mother. Now she is on the run from the paparazzi and trying to find out who really killed her mother...maybe it was even her, she can't remember!
The Audiobook narrator was snarky, fun and did a great job, I couldn't stop listening to this one!
Y: The Last Man by Brian Vaughan
A graphic novel that kills off all the males in the world leaving one male human and his male monkey, searching for his girlfriend after the world falls apart. One of my first forays into graphic novels and an interesting plotline. Kept me interested enough to make me want to read the next one, I just hope the main man, Yorrick Brown's, character improves. There are government agents, homicidal women, politics and Yorrick's quest to get to Australia to see his beloved again.
A Deeper Sleep: A Kate Shugak Novel by Dana Stebenow
Louis Deem has been murdering his wives and after he is released from police custody after being acquitted of killing his third wife, he heads back to the Park where Kate and Jim Chopin have to deal with him. When another gruesome murder occurs and it looks like Louis will get away with it, in spite of an eye witness, grave consequences will occur.
Readers who have been following this series will love settling in with Jim, Kate and Johnny on another wild ride through Alaska's interior.
|Whisper to the blood : a Kate Shugak novel by Dana Stabenow|
An open pit gold mining operation is set to open inside the Park, bringing thousands of jobs to it's residents. Not everyone is happy about it though and when two people end up dead, it's up to Kate to re-connect with her people and put a stop to the crime wave.
This series just keeps getting better. I love that Stabenow keeps Kate's story fresh and interesting.
The Imaginary by A.F. Harrold
Rudger is Amanda's imaginary friend. When an accident occurs, he must find her, while being chased by an imaginary friend eater, or face fading away into nothing. This book is wonderfully illustrated and whimsical, a nice reminder to let your imagination run and play. Written as a book for kids, it relates to adults as well. The colorful illustrations within the black and white sketches are great eye candy!
